HERB GRILLING SAUCE Notes: This shelf special is easy, and fast. You can grill or, if the weather is not suitable for grilling, you can broil.  Sources Disclaimer: I am not a chef, nor a licensed food service professional of any kind. Tarragon Lime Marinade- Not Just for Chicken!

Image
Last one in my current list of marinades for the end of this grilling season, but you don't have to stop using marinades. They are just as fine when used with an oven, air fryer, broiler, slow cooker, and Instant Pot.  Again, this one is from Tupperware. Credit where credit is due. Please note this recipe works equally well with fish. If you struggle like me with what to do with fish, this marinade is a simple solution to the intimidation of cooking fish. No need for a fancy grill basket, either. Just wrap the fish in foil and bake until the flesh flakes. It won't take long! I want to try this in the air fryer.

Tomato Base Marinade

I love marinades, especially for the grill. This marinade was originally published by Tupperware to go with a dish they sold specifically made for marinades. I own both sizes, but you don't need a special container. A good zipper-top bag (aka Ziploc) will do nicely. Just make the marinade, drop in the meat, pour in the marinade, seal it well, and put it in a container just in case of leaks in the fridge. Turn it over at least once or twice to ensure the marinade gets in all the way.

Oriental Marinade

Oriental Marinade What can I say about this one? It's unconventional? Not really. Just not used much. If you happen to have rice wine vinegar, that really ups the ante on authenticity, but it's not a screaming necessity.  This again is from Tupperware to showcase their special marinade container, but it isn't necessary. A Ziploc bag is all you really need, but I would put the bag with the marinade in a container while in the refrigerator, just in case it leaks.

Fruit Ice

I might have published this before, but it bears repeating.  This recipe is very versatile. Change out the fruit according to what you can find in the market or even the frozen fruit section of grocery stores.  You can also change out the shape by changing the mold from the recommended loaf pan to whatever you have handy. I personally collect those copper-colored gelatin molds you find in thrift stores and garage sales, but the new silicone molds offer a wealth of opportunities. Even individual molds can make serving much easier.  A dollop of whipped topping and a sprinkle of edible glitter finishes the dessert in moments. Voila! You look like a star and note that even vegans might enjoy this dish.

Basic Marinade

Image
BASIC MARINADE At the time of this post, it's almost Labor Day, and I'm thinking grilling out! This go-to recipe will make your planning easier for this "one last blowout before fall" for most folks.  This original recipe is from Tupperware and was included when they released a marinating container that allows the cook to rotate the food inside easily. Note this recipe goes with beef, pork or chicken.

Borax- The Other Wonder in Your Pantry

Image
https://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/uses-for-household-borax/   I'm giving this lady full credit! We all know about baking soda and how many wonderful things it can do, but borax equals or exceeds it. I've made the laundry soap and found it beyond excellent. I've used it to scrub delicate china without removing the artwork, and I knew it could do other things but I was stunned by the advice from a friend to try it for an insect infestation. Little brown cockroaches had invaded my home from a grocery bag kept a little too long, and bug spray just wasn't doing the job. Not only was it expensive, I was tired of inhaling the poison while I wielded the Raid spray like a weapon. Not the way I want to enjoy my coffee in the morning. I live in Florida, and bugs are a constant issue. We have cockroaches the size of your thumb we term "palmetto bugs" but let's not mince words. They are giant flying cockroaches you have to kill with a hammer. No, I'm not k...

Hot Dog Sauces!

Everyone knows the summertime grilling season here in the Northern Hemisphere. We Americans will soon celebrate Independence Day on July 4, and most of us will grill out, picnic, and other forms of mayhem. My family will include a family reunion in the mayhem. I'll probably bring the hot dog sauces. Here are my favorites below. Be aware some must be made well in advance. Who says hot dogs are boring? Not my family! Tart Apple Mustard 1/2 cup honey mustard 2 T shredded green apple (I used Granny Smith) 1/2 t. ground black pepper In a small bowl stir together all ingredients. Cover bowl and allow flavors to marry for at least 2 hours. Makes about 2/3 cup. Bacon Brown Sugar Mustard (Family favorite!) 3/4 cup yellow mustard 3 slices crisp cooked bacon, cooled and broken up 4 t. brown sugar or 2 t. Splenda Brown Blend them all together, cover and refrigerate overnight to blend the flavors. Hot Ketchup 2/3 cup ketchup 2 T. Worcestershire 1 t hot sauce (Tabasco) or a...

Bacon Wrapped Franks

No, you don't have to use a bun. You can use a wrap, or simply do without and eat the delicious frank with a fork.
